Welcome to my homepage!
When I was six, I took some money from my father’s collection of coins and
went to the kiosk to buy candies. Having eaten too much and full of
regrets, I was summoned to my father’s office for a talk about how to
behave in a family so that all works out well. And that is how it is. In
the fields of ethics and crime novels, the same questions come up. What
is bad? What is good? And how should I live my life? These are matters
that never stop interesting me.
I was born in Visby, a medieval city, and grew up
on the island of Gotland, in a house where story-telling was important.
We did not have TV when I was a child, but my father made glove puppets
and acted for us behind a large armchair. In the evenings we sat by the
fire, listening to great-grandmother who told us about the old times.
When you are a child, it is a great privilege to be able to listen and
to have somebody who is ready to listen to you.
Later I moved to the city of Örebro to become a
nurse. It appeared that I could not see blood without fainting. But
difficulties are there to be overcome. Surgery is not my cup of tea, but
I still work at night at the Department of Lung Medicine because it is
meaningful. Especially when I can include in my work another activity:
the tactile massage. Of course, I intended to return to Gotland. But
that is not how things turned out. I met my husband and I remained in
Vintrosa, a village close to Örebro. We have three children, teenagers,
who leave our home now.
It is necessary to have fun even after the age of
forty and I started to write during Christmas 1998. That year I met an
eighty-year-old woman. She had been assaulted by her own son, a mentally
ill person, and my literary activity is the fruit of the amazement that
her story caused me. A civilized society must take care of its citizens
much better than that. The result of this was my first crime novel, Stum
sitter guden (The god remains mute, not translated into English).
Besides the series of crime novels, with Maria
Wern as main character, and eight children’s books published by Bonnier
Utbildning, I have written two books of applied ethics for the nursing
staff with Agneta Blom, Senior lecturer in Political Science. The need
to discuss ethical dilemmas is very great and I give approximately
eighty lectures a year all around Sweden. Before I was forty, I have had
no idea I would do all this.
Music is an important part of my life, almost a physical necessity. Not that I have any qualifications, I never had. I am a happy amateur who sometimes sets poems I like to music. Would you like to play from the music or listen to my setting of Nils Ferlin's poem 'The god remains mute?

Forein bird
That which has been feared the most has come to pass. The bird
flu pandemic has reached Gotland. The cook at a soccer camp
suddenly falls ill. The doctor specializing in infectious
diseases decides to keep the children and their coach in
quarantine, and the police are responsible for ensuring that no
one breaks through the cordoned-off area. When the parents
realize that there is no effective medicine, a feeling of panic
threatens to break out.
Is it right to sacrifice the lives of a few in order to save the
majority?
The borders of Gotland are closed to the world, and as the
primitive fear of the infection increases, the hunt for
scapegoats begins. Extremists and anti-immigrant groups gain
ground.
Nurse Sandra Hägg makes a gruesome discovery at her workplace, a
private health clinic. Together with a journalist friend she
looks for evidence to prove her suspicions. The search for the
truth costs her her life.
Detective Inspector Maria Wern is hunting for a man who sells
pharmaceutical products for treating flu via an Internet site
and who probably had contact with Sandra. At the same time Maria
has to deal with her own anxiety when some of those closest to
her come down with bird flu.
A frightening, topical novel that uses extensive expert
knowledge to give us a true-to-life scenario dealing with that
which we fear the most. Forein bird is a story about fear, but
also about its opposite, about love and reconciliation.
